and so i reply again :)

it's certainly appalling if primary 2 kids are using vulgarities too
becoz , simply put, they lacked the maturity to know wat's wrong with it

"and so i really hope wat u said is more than 100% correct kelvin."

guess i can onli speak for myself and my close frens on this
habits are hard to kick , tt's for sure
i wun argue with that
but at the very least, we will not use it around ppl whu are offended by vulgarities and certainly not on my family and not around children either
again, it's up to the individual

"i know swear words somehow have this magical after-effect of male bonding. say the f word in any sentence and a large majority of a group of guys will break out in laughter and there will suddenly be this certain camaraderie."--------

no i personally disagree with this.To say that hurling vulgarities helps bonding is ridiculous. when the guys break out in laughter, they are not laughing at the use of the word "fuck" .they are laughing at the amusing situation tt (regrettably) lead the person to utter "fuck" .For example, say A wanted to play on prank on B by emptying a pail of water on B from behind.B noes bout it and decided to turn the table on A by asking C to help.Juz as A crept up behind B with the pail of water, C came up and pour water on A. A yell "fuck!" and everyone whu's watching laughed. sub "oh no" or "wat the heck" for "fuck" and ppl will still be laughing.coz it's isn;t the vulgarity that ppl are laughing

"hoping for the day that someone brave will tell his platoon that there should be no swearing going on, and that an NS guy comes out and says with full conviction that there's really no need to swear for 'bonding purposes'."

realli, it's not about bonding for i realli dun c it helping bonding in any way
ok even if u mean to come out and tell everyone that there's no need to swear for any reason watsoever,
i feel u r being idealistic here nel ha
nono, i dun blame u for tt
u got to experience NS for yaself to noe why i say so
becoz, u will come to realise that yes, the army will be betta off with less vulgarities but hmmm, it's a futile effort to eradicate all

"someone once told me that swearing helps them let off steam. and then i start to wonder what happens when they become immune to the f word and have to find something else to let off their anger. wat r they gonna move on to? or is there some other reason people use it that i somehow missed while growing up? my guy friend said "wahlao nel, u're never gonna get married la" lolx"----

NOw wat's wrong with ladies who dun like vulgarities?
there's certainly nothing wrong with that....

"Yoz, i haf read ur fren's blog, she commented "i half hope he doesn't ever read my comment coz i have this imagination that he'll somehow find me in school and beat me up. u know how army guys are like rite?"
She was refering to yiqin, at the same time we army guys are being stereotyped as violent... Ha ha.
So any comments? "

comments ah ? hmmm
i remember nel writing about she canot stand guys who keep hurling vulgarities and also another one bout a gal in her lecture whu used ugly words
it's quite ironic when i read her articles
becoz, i confess, i also used alot of vulgar language in camp (certainly not at home)
let mi bring u back to my BMT days
on the very first day , our sgts have gathered my platoon and started a ice-breaking session
then one of them asked, "ok,those whu have nvr say vulgarities before , raise ya hand"
the whole platoon was grinning away

my sgt commented sincerely," oi it's not farni ok.there do are ppl who are not used to vulgarities and find it offending.so we need to find out if there's anyone"

then my platoon sgt interuppted,"anyone anot?!?"
there was this very gentle-looking guy who raised his hand
everyone's attenton was now focused on him
and my platoon sgt goes,"har realli ar?!?nvr use b4..dun bluff u noe..."
the guy nodded his head
then my PS said to a half-stunned him,"ok say one vulgarity now or u knock it down"
we look at the guy and the guy look at the PS
"hurry up or u knock down u noe!"
it seems like eternity but finally , with a defeated look, the poor guy uttered one single vulgarity( i forgot wat)
and everyone simply collapsed into laughter at that point (the guy a while ltr also laugh laugh)
it was quite farni at that time

then my PS say,"the reason why we asked u all who find vulgarities offending is becoz there been past cases whereby recruits canot stand vulgarities and complained.
but i wana tell u , in army, almost EVERyone use vulgarites. you will hear them everyday one.but ar, we dun mean to insult u or wat u noe. It's like part of the language and jokingly one.no offense aimed at any body .."
then he turned to the guy who raised his hand ," dun take it to heart ar.."

once u go ns, even if a guy nvr used vulgarities before, ltr he willl more or less used a few himself
it's part of army life
nel, i understand why u find it so disgusting
many of us guys know that it's not gd to use it outside camp
sometimes , one of us forgot where we are and uttered some in the public
then he will get shut up by the others
and tt person will end up rather sheepish haha

tt's y out of camp, we guys always took great care not to use
but among guys ourselves, we dun realli mind one another using
coz , how to say, we noe the user dun meant it as a personal insult
i expect this bad habit will leave us once we are out of national service.(the environment one is in does have a effect)

truth be told, i also canot stand girls who swear
i remember i was having dinner outside.
there were this pretty lass sitting near mi with her fren
imagine my shock when all of a sudden while she was chatting away, she suddenly started gg "chee bye this chee bye that " rather loudly
i practically dropped my spoon

no no, there's nothing cool about using vulgarities.FULL STOP

hey nel, i probably should show ya comment to yiqin
did like to c his face when he read ya comment
knowing him, it probably gona trigger a war of words

still, actually i at first also hesitant about blogging,
it's like quite a feminine thing
nobody among my sec sch frens read blogs either

but can say ya blog was my source of inspiration la nel
i enjoy the light-heartedness and humour in ya articles(but but.....dun get hao lian wor....)haha
so i thought since i'm so darned free, why not try blogging?
i thought my interest in blogging will fade away fast
certainly i'm amazed tt i'm still gg strong
and anyway, if i didn't noe tt zhaofeng , jiamao and adam blog too, i certainly will not have shown my blog to them either and i most prob wun have continue blogging liaoz
jiamao's blog is particularly impressive
wah, if i can write the language u wrote, my GP last time sure no problem
zf ,reading ya blog makes mi look back on the ssc days with a certain amt of nostalgia
liew, given the politics in bsc, i rather missed the days we storm ppl spent together

i noe my jc klass gals blog too
i duno wether they are still active bloggers too
but i imagine if i told them i blog too, they did be surprised
ha reminds me of the day i cut botak and went to sch
it was a dare among friends to have the no hair look
i assure u , my original look was got plenty of hair one
so one very fine day, i climbed up the nvr-ending staircase of njc ,sporting my new look..
one or two of my klassmates saw me and i could pratically c thier jaws dropping and eyes enlarged...
and when i proceed to the klassroom, the rxn was , erm ,even more drastic
the "oh my god!" ,"wat did u do to ya hair?!!?!", "Eeee.." was filling my ears
the guys at least took it quite well
girls be girls ....
now, can u imagine if i told them i blog too?
of coz la, thier rxn wouldn't be so exaggerated la
but i'm thinking they will be quite surprised , coz it's quite "unkelvin"

USS ronald reagan

getting to go on board the aircraft carrier USS ROnald Reagan was great
to actually touch a F-18 hornet was a childhood dream come true
believe me
when the fighter pilot was introducing the plane to us, i still coudn't really believe that i actually am on board a US warship, much less a aircraft carrier
and when the pilot finally give us the go ahead, i was standing there ,juz a little bit awestruck, deciding which part of the plane to touch and feel first
it was like laying the first brick on the foundation on a impt building,or having the hundred of nations finally ratifying the Kyoto protocol etc,u noe, the "u have reached a milestone" tt kind of feeling
finally i chose the area below the cockpit where the plane number was written
oh man....

ok, shall not proceed to bore u all since u all also got go on board
*grinz*
bloody americans jack up the price of the zippo lighters
2LT eugene bought it at US$16
today they were selling at US$21
but i still bought it la, couldn't resist

oh ya, saw our fav neo zhehan on board too
haha
mr zhaofeng, i wish u gd luck
with both ryan and neo as ya future fellow instructors, i'm sure u need all the luck i giving u now....
haha
